Privately owned Modern Theatre in Sofia opened its doors on December 10.

The theatre is located in the building of the former Bulgarian-Soviet friendship house on Evlogi Georgiev Boulevard.

It has two modern halls and a cabaret, avtora.com said.

Bulgarian actor Ivailo Hristov and businessman Dimitrios Arvanitis are the founders of the new private theatre.

Culture Minister Stefan Danailov performed the opening ceremony and wished theatre director Hristov and the theatre success.

“I believe that this theatre will increase competition in Sofia and thus quality,” Danailov said.

Irini Zhambonas, Stefaniya Koleba and Ivan Burnev are among the actors to perform in plays at new Modern Theatre.
