Regulations drafted by the Bulgarian Health Ministry may lead to bankruptcies and may disrupt drug supplies, according to the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union (BPU).
The draft calls for the enforcement of a twofold cut in retail mark-ups on drugs.
Pharmacies are currently allowed to mark up wholesale prices by 12 per cent to 28 per cent depending on the price of the drug, according to Dnevnik daily.
The BPU says the reduction in mark-ups proposed by the Health Ministry would encourage tax fraud and the distribution of copycat drugs.
The union was not asked for their input regarding the draft regulations.
In response, it has drafted its own set of pricing rules.
