Protests in Souhodol lasted an hour and a half on December 9, Dnevnik daily said.

More than 100 protesters gathered and tried to block access to the landfill for trucks with waste, but were held at a distance by police.

Protesters carried election posters from Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov from the 2005 municipal elections. One of posters had Borissov's signature and a handwritten text "I support Souhodol" on it. Protesters yelled "before and now, Boiko is mafia".

Protesters tried to go around the police blockade, but could not reach the trucks with waste and returned to the central square..

Waste was thrown at the doorstep of the house of Georgi Georgiev, representative of Dialogue for Souhodol. Georgiev was said to be in negotiations with Sofia municipality over the conditions under which the Souhodol landfill would be open for Sofia's waste. Protesters, who refused any dialogue and wanted the landfill closed, said he was a traitor, mediapool.bg said.

Protesters announced they would protest every evening between 6pm and 8pm.
