National Movement Simeon II (NMSII), one of the parties in the ruling tripartite coalition, proposed changes to the law for the Black Sea coastal region, banning stalls on the beaches.

Borislav Vladimirov, NMSII MP, said that if the National Assembly passed the changes, all shops, stalls and fast food restaurants on the beaches would have to close, 24 Chassa newspaper reported. The only premises permitted by the law include healthcare centres, rest rooms and shower cabins.

NMSII proposes all beaches to become municipality property. The state will retain ownership over only 19 beaches in the leading national resorts. At present the state failed to manage properly the 120 beaches not given on concession and municipalities could take better care of them, Angel Tyurkedzhiev from the NMSII said.

Concessionaires would be obliged to place signs on their beach stating the free access zones, 24 Chassa said.

Another change proposes a ban on buildings over 10 m in height in the 2 km region near the beach. Construction density was limited to 30 per cent.
