During the Maritsa international economic forum, which starts today (April 22) in Plovdiv, Energy Efficiency Agency executive director Tasko Ermenkov announced that the procedure for adopting a new energy efficiency law had started. Ermenkov's presentation at the forum was entitled “Energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in Bulgaria”, Focus news agency reported.
The draft energy efficiency act implements a three-year energy efficiency strategy, Ermenkov said. The draft law, written by an inter-departmental working group, establishes competencies for implementing energy efficiency measures as well as mechanisms designed to attract electricity traders.
According to Ermenkov, the Maritsa forum provides opportunities for Central and Eastern European countries to exchange ideas and information about energy efficiency.
“Energy efficiency not only leads to a rational electricity consumption but also to a decrease of harmful emissions and cleaner ecology,” Ermenkov said. He believed that the forum was the right place to discuss problems facing Bulgaria and the region.
