The State Energy and Water Regulatory Committee (SEWRC) already considers new electricity prices to be enforced on October 1.
Owners of the seven electricity-distributing companies in the country requested price increase between six and nine per cent, Darik Radio reported. The committee also has to decide whether to impose additional taxation for consumers.
If the National Electric Company (NEC) continues attracting some of the commercial clients of the electricity-distributing companies, their income is expected to go down. As a result electricity prices could increase by additional six to eight per cent.
This information came from Gocho Chemshirov, representative of EVN for Bulgaria. Representatives of the Czech energy company CEZ said they would also demand higher prices in case of such developments.
At the same time it became clear electricity prices would rise by no more than 10 per cent after the closure of Kozlodui nuclear power plant reactors.
Bulgaria is obliged to close the two blocks by the end of the year to meet EU requirements.
