European Commission (EC) considers whether to create a new position, immigration or immigration and integration commissioner, after Bulgaria and Romania's EU entry, Reuters news agency reported.
The new position would probably assume the some of the duties of justice commissioner Franco Frattini and social affairs and equal opportunities commissioner Vladimir Spidla, Reuters said.
The commissioner would probably come from a big EU member country because Bulgarian and Romanian candidates had small experience in the field.
If so, EC would have to re-organise, Reuters said.
The decision was still to be made, as the EC president Jose Manuel Barroso needed to consult the European Parliament, Reuters said.
Bulgaria and Romania's entry would mean that Barroso would have to appoint two more commissioners, Reuters said.
Thus the number of commissioners would increase to 27.
