Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB), the party that emerged as strongest Cabinet opposition in the members of European Parliament (MEP) elections, will work for preliminary parliamentary elections.
The statement came from CEDB founder and informal leader Boiko Borissov, following the May 20 elections, Novinar newspaper reported.
On May 20, the party refused to take part in the press conferences, held immediately after the preliminary election results were announced. CEDB’s reason was the small percentage difference and the lack of clarity.
After the initial count, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) was given highest percentage. It turned out, however, that CEDB was in the lead, slightly ahead of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).
Borissov said that the party will work for preliminary parliamentary elections in autumn 2007.
It would be best if such vote coincided with the municipal elections, Borissov said.
Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev should resign from his position together with Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov, Borissov said.
