The price increase of natural gas in Bulgaria, related to the signing of new agreement with Russian energy company Gazprom is to remain below 10 per cent, MP and deputy chair of the parliamentary energy committee Yordan Kostadinov said.
Only time was going to show if the new agreement with the Russian company was beneficial, said Kostandinov.
In the end of 2005 Russia demanded changed to the natural gas supply and transit passage agreement with Bulgaria. Economists said that a new agreement could hike prices by as much as 40 per cent.
Kostadinov said as quoted by Focus news agency that the new agreement could have been given more publicity. The memorandum to be signed with Gazprom had to be debated more, said he, as it would affect Bulgaria's economy in the coming 25 years.
On December 18 Bulgarian natural gas distributor Bulgargaz and Gazprom are to sign the memorandum to be effective until 2030.
