NATIONAL AIDS SEMINAR IN BULGARIA
13:14 Fri 24 Feb 2006

In the last two years more than 15 000 people used the services of the anonymous AIDS and HIV consulting rooms throughout the country, Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski said.

Since 2004 non-governmental organisations working on HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns reached more than 20 000 intravenous drug addicts, representatives of the Roma minority and of various risk groups, Gaidarski said.

The Health Minister attended today the opening of a seminar on HIV and AIDS, the Bulgarian National Radio reported. Gaidarski said Bulgaria has enough medical supplies to provide treatment for AIDS patients in the coming two months.

Bulgaria's AIDS/HIV prevention campaign takes place in 111 schools in 13 municipalities. It focuses on sexual education and awareness campaigns.

During the national forum experts will present a report on the execution of the UN declaration for commitment on HIV/AIDS.

The national forum aims at revealing progress on the engagements accepted with the signing of the declaration.
