Music Space invites original Bulgarian musical competitions to face off

Your opportunity to become famous has just arrived. Through mobile operator M-Tel's new project Music Space, any and all persons or group with an inkling of musical talent (or even proven success) can upload his or her original compositions through musicspace.bg and/or the WAP portal Vodafone live! until October 1 2008, where they will be listened to and rated by the Bulgarian public.

The musical submissions with the highest ratings will go on to receive the realisation of their dreams – production of an audio recording, participation in a club concert, participation in a CD compilation and production of a video clip.

MobilTel marketing department representatives, musicians from Deep Zone Project, a Toxicity Records executive, and singer Deo announced the project at a news conference on July 15 at recording studio 1 of Bulgarian National Radio, the largest recording studio on the Balkans. The goal of the initiative is to popularise original Bulgarian musical compositions.

Evgeni Karakanovski, marketing data director at M-Tel, said that the project had been organised as such – letting the Bulgarian public select the winners – because “we did not want a pre-selected four or 12 people sitting on a jury to chose what they liked best”. He said that he hoped that Music Space would contribute to the development of original music in Bulgaria.

While M-Tel conceived and organised the project, Toxicity Records was set to assure the adherence to the rules of the game, with a large emphasis on verification that all submissions are original creations.

Toxicity Records manager Boris Bonchev explained what his company would do: assure the technical/logistical operations, particularly the web and WAP platforms, and be in charge of mobile phone content, interactive content, and administration (which includes sending a paper contract to each submitter – as required by Bulgarian law – that the submitter must sign and return in order to participate).

With Music Space, M-Tel has created a digital music label, thus allowing the public to be heard by the largest possible audience. Audio and video files are classified as pop/dance, r 'n' b/hip-hop, rock/alternative and ethno/folk.

Those wishing to listen to the songs can do so for free; the cost to download a fragment of a submission in true tone for a mobile phone is 30 stotinki; the cost to download the entire song is 60 stotinki.

Every time a song is listened to, it receives one vote for the final ratings. Every time a song is downloaded from Vodafone live! live.mtel.bg, it receives 10 votes.

Any Bulgarian citizen or citizen of a European Union country with permanent residency in Bulgaria can participate free of charge with audio contributions to Music Space. Submissions must be an original music composition (not samples or fragments); covers or remixes of already existing works will not be accepted; submissions cannot contain bad language, lewd innuendos, sexual references, defamatory remarks or words, propaganda, or discriminatory remarks or words about sex, gender, race, religion, politics or educational background. Property of third parties is accepted only in the case that the third party gives permission.

The accepted file format for uploading submissions is MP3, bitrate 192kbit/s, 44100Hz, Stereo, with files of no larger than 20MB. For full information on conditions, please visit musicspace.bg.
