09:03 Mon 18 Jun 2007

Sozopol municipality launched a sign-up sheet for the deviation of the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline construction.

According to the municipal council, petroleum will be unloaded in the sea to avoid port tax payment.

Such method posed ecological threats and could affect tourism in the region, Sozopol municipality said.

The sign-up sheet will be present to Bulgaria’s executive authorities and all institutions involved in the project.

Bourgas-Alexandroupolis is a project that long awaited approval and recently saw the signing of the agreement between the three countries involved in it, Bulgaria, Russia and Greece.

Russian petroleum will be transported through the Bulgarian port of Bourgas to the Greek port of Alexandroupolis. The project led to debates among parties in Bulgaria. Formations in opposition said that the execution will increase energy dependence on Russia and will affect tourism in the coastal region.
