MUNICIPALITIES IN BULGARIA ANNOUNCE EMERGENCY SITUATION BECAUSE OF FIRES
09:04 Wed 25 Jul 2007

Stara Zagora regional governor Maria Neikova ordered Kazanluk and Muglizh municipalities to declare emergencies, starting at 5pm on July 24 2007, because of fires.

The fire in Muglizh municipality leapt the I-5 first-class road but was brought in check in front of an irrigation channel near the village of Cherganovo, Focus news agency reported.

Fire brigades from five nearby towns and more than 100 military personnel were sent to the scene. A number of volunteers also helped fight the fire.

The population of Cherganovo’s endangered quarters will be rescued, if needed.

The roads from Stara Zagora to Kazanluk Gurkovo to Muglizh were closed, Focus said. Traffic on the I-5 road was also stopped.
