Though Members of Parliament in Bulgaria decided to miss their summer vacation they would be unable to accept all reforms needed for Bulgaria’s EU accession by the end of the month, Dnevnik newspaper reported.
According to plan 11 draft laws have to be approved on first reading by the end of August. Eight more regulations await approval on second reading, Dnevnik reported.
Some of the laws needed urgently include new regulations on organ transplantation, energy provision, tobacco production and public property.
Work was just getting started on laws against discrimination, party regulations and income taxation, Dnevnik reported.
Fast action was needed so that all developments could be presented for the September evaluation of Bulgaria’s readiness to join the EU. On September 26 the European Commission is expected to present its final analysis and entry date recommendation.
In the coming weeks members of the ruling tripartite coalition also need to meet to discuss constitution amendments to be tabled in parliament by mid-September.
