Bulgarian MPs discussed the several options for Bulgarian participation in the UN peacekeeping operations in Southern Lebanon.
The parliamentary foreign affairs committee, the Defence Ministry and the Bulgarian armed forces were ready to consider all options and choose the most appealing one, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
Head of the foreign affairs committee Solomon Passi said four options existed. Bulgaria could send infantry divisions, marine forces, medical teams or humanitarian aid.
A number of countries already offered the sending of troops or marine forces and any option that the Bulgarian Parliament offers would be examined strictly before accepted, Passi said.
The Middle East was a high-risk zone and the sending of troops or medical teams posed danger, Passi said. Such participation had to be well-planned, said he.
So far, the most suitable form of participation was the sending of medical teams, said he.
