Members of Parliament approved on first reading changes to organ transplatation regulations.
The accepted changes would introduce new regulations for organ donation, Focus news agency reported. Everyone, who has not stated their disagreement, would be a potential donor.
According to previous regulations people had to state their will to donate organs, which hindered the procedure.
Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) member Nikolai Mihailov said he was against the changes. Such major modifications were going to be carried out without a public debate, Mihailov said.
If changes were approved, Bulgarians would become potential donors without being aware of it, Mihailov said. Society lacked enough information on the issue, said he.
Some of the proposed changes could be modified between the first and the second reading, Focus reported.
