From April 1 until the end of the month police will introduce stricter traffic regulation measures in Bulgaria’s capital.
These measures will affect both drivers and pedestrians, head of the Sofia traffic police Mario Mihailov said.
Inspections will be carried out throughout Sofia. Police will fine intoxicated drivers and those driving without a license or under the influence of drugs.
More than 9000 traffic accidents occurred in Sofia since the beginning of 2007. Nearly 500 people were injured and 27 were killed.
The majority of accidents occurred on Fridays, police statistics show. In the majority of the cases drivers were speeding or intoxicated, Focus news agency reported.
