More than 6 000 Bulgarian teachers protested in front of Parliament on September 27 2007.
Shouting "retirement", and carrying posters with texts "Leaders and bosses of unions with teacher salaries", "worthy work, worthy pay", "yes to salaries, no to complaints" over 600 teachers and kindergarten staff from Sofia, Karlovo, Sopot, SlivenPernik protested in front of Parliament, Focus new agency reported.
The centre of Sofia has been partially closed for traffic and police presence has been higher than normal.
Unions claim more than 6 000 teachers and students gathered on Ploshtad Nezavisimost (Independance square).
"If you have courage, governors, come out and join us and see that the Bulgarian teacher is a worthy person," union leader Yanka Takeva said.
Takeva was sure that if the government would not meet the demands of the teachers, the school year would not be finished, Focus news agency said.
Teacher have demanded a gradual salary increase of 100 per cent and have been on an effective strike since September 24.
Earlier in the day, more than 2 000 teachers blocked part of boulevard Christo Botev in Bourgas in front of the building of the regional administration.
