By the end of August Bulgaria has to accept more than 20 laws needed for the country’s on-time EU accession on January 1 2007.
Among the most important items on the National Assembly’s agenda are changes to the Penal Code, amendments to the law against discrimination, new organ donation and transplantation regulations and new privatisation laws.
Parliament Speaker Georgi Pirinski said that due to the workload MPs would work without a summer vacation.
All institutions were working hard to meet European Commission requirements and fulfill the EC’s recommendations for reforms in problematic areas, Pirinski said.
By the end of August the National Assembly planned to present a fulfilled programme, which could be used as the basis for positive evaluation and confirmation of Bulgaria’s entry date, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
