MORE THAN 0.5 MILLION LEVA AND GOLD STOLEN FROM BANK TRUCK IN BULGARIA’S CAPITAL
11:52 Fri 02 Mar 2007

Officials calculated the amount of money stolen from a bank truck collecting cash for First Investment Bank (FIB) on February 28 2007.

The sum amounted to 500 000 leva, FIB told Focus news agency. Gold costing 50 000 leva was also stolen from the truck.

FIB said that the stolen amount was insured.

The truck was collecting cash from a store, when it was robbed on February 28 at 8.30pm. Security guards opened fire on the attackers who were also armed, but no one was harmed.

Police found a burned vehicle in a nearby village soon after the robbery, Focus said. The vehicle was stolen in September 2006. Officers suspect that the car has to do with the robbery.
