64 packets of 32.558 kg of heroin were seized by customs inspectors at the Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey, according to the press office of the Customs Agency announced.
The heroin was proclaimed to be of high quality after tests were performed on the drug.
The amount taken at the border was worth 2.6 million leva.
Custom officers found the drug was stashed in the gas tank of a Volkswagen Passat crossing into Bulgaria from Turkey. The car had a Bulgarian license plate and was driven by a 41-year-old Bulgarian citizen.
The case is under investigation.
