Increasing number of British families were interested in the purchase of property in Bulgaria's Dryanovo and other smaller populated areas of the country, Mail and Guardian Online reported.
Some of the problems families found concerning the purchase in small Bulgarian villages included Bulgarian regulations saying that only foreign enterprises rather than individuals could buy property in the country.
One other problem was the old and underdeveloped infrastructure in some less populated areas, Mail and Guardian reported.
According to government reports more than 1150 British citizens applied for long-term residence permit in Bulgaria in 2005.
According to Bulgarian property agents the lower prices made Bulgarian property competitive and preferred over real estate in Spain, Portugal and Croatia.
