The Monsters of Rock International Festival will take place from August 3 to August 7 in Varna. It is likely to gather 780 international celebrities from 64 bands and the audience is expected to reach 200 000 people.

With more than 101 hours of live music non-stop, the festival aims at a new Guinness World Book record, Focus news agency reported.

The performances will take place simultaneously in Varna and Germany's Hamburg. Musicians will be transported by airplane. A total of six bands will represent Bulgaria.

The only remaining problem is the exact place for the event, as no Bulgarian ground is large enough. The Varna municipality said the festival will be self-sustainable.

Municipality representatives said they hope the rock show will aid the city become one of Europe's culture capitals, Darik radio reported.

Other cultural events to take place in Varna include a jazz festival in August and a Uriah Heep concert in May.
