The best Bulgarian movies of 2006 were selected on the day of Bulgarian cinema, January 13.

Monkeys in Winter received the best movie award, netinfo.bg reported. In September the same movie received a Golden Rose award at the Varna cinema festival.

The annual awards are handed for the second time.

Audiences in Bulgaria will be able to see Monkeys in Winter starting February 9, film producer Nevena Andonova said.

Monkeys in Winter already got various awards, among which best actress, best screenplay and best costumes.

The film, as well as another Bulgarian production named Christmas Tree Upside Down received awards from international festivals in 2006.

Binka Zheliazkova and Hristo Ganev received awards for lifetime achievement.

Awards were given in number of other categories among which best animation, documentary and soundtrack.
