15:16 Wed 03 Oct 2007

On October 2, a 59 year old man from Haskova lost 1 000 leva in a money deceit scheme, Focus news agency said.

The man had taken 1 000 leva from his bank account through a cash machine, after which he was approached by a man presenting himself as an employee of the bank.

The fake bank employee was dressed in a dark suit, with a grey shirt and a card with the logo of the bank and his name on it.

The man told the victim that the money he just drew from the money machine was forged and had to be changed.

The fake employee took the man in to building, where he took the money from the victim and disappeared.

Police called for more vigilance, Focus said, and gave the advise to return to the bank and ask if the story was true there.

Besides this scheme, tricksters used other methods as well, the police said. This includes deals over the telephone, sales of vauchers, payment of deposits, family abroad and delivery of a package.
