MOGILINO HOME STILL NOT CLOSED
12:09 Fri 21 Dec 2007 - Spasena Baramova

The municipal council in Dve mogili again did not adopt a decision to close the social care home for disabled children in the village of Mogilino.

Regional administration however, said it would insist that councillors would review their decision, since it was in conflict with the plan to close the home, Bulgarian National Radio BNR announced as reported by mediapool.bg.

A team of medical specialists have worked at the Mogilino home for more than a month. As a result, the health of the children in the home improved. Two children have been transferred to the Rousse Nadezhda home and for the older ones, so called protected housing was to be found.

Mariela Licheva of the Agency for Child Protection in Rousse said that the decision of the municipal council in Dve mogili was absurd. She said that the 6-month time frame to close the home was short, but the children had to be taken out of Mogilino.

Licheva commented that after the international Mogilino scandal, all institutions and non-governmental organisations in Bulgaria joined forces to impose changes and to take the children urgently out of the home, mediapool.bg said.

Why did you not mention that Unicef have now more or less taken over the operation at Mogolino, the Director has resigned and the local Mayor has been most helpful in providing a house for Unicef staff? And the children have each had proper medical assessments, some being hospitalised as a result. The diet has also greatly improved. Good news makes good reading too!
