Bulgarian television bTV reported that it was fairly easy for a minor in Bulgaria to buy an air pistol without any form of control online. The team of bTV used the online shopping website from what was described as "one of the largest retailers in the country" to order an air pistol.
During the ordering process, no age confirmation was asked.
BTV said they ordered the air pistol in a fictitious name and had it delivered by courier to their door two days later.
Also upon delivery, the age of the client was not verified, according to bTV.
According to bTV, the package content was labelled as "spare parts", as sending weapons, ammunition or explosives via postal delivery was not allowed by law.
While the purchase and possession of other types of weapons requires permits, Bulgarian law allows the sale and possession of air guns by anyone over 18.
It was allegedly an air pistol that Poul Boevski used when he injured himself in an incident at Sofia's 18th William Gladstone high school on April 18 2008.
