Part of the Bulgarian Ministries will be moved from the Batenberg square to a new address.
Sofia's chief architect Petar Dikov said as quoted by 24 Chasa daily that a new ministerial centre would be constructed near the 4th kilometre along Tsarigradsko Chausse boulevard. The new ministries would be within walking distance of the metro station which is currently still under construction.
The 4th kilometre zone currently houses a restaurant and club and a hospital.
Ministries, state committees and agencies that experience problems with their buildings would be moved to the new location, Dikov said. The centre would cover an area of 750 000 sq m.
Dikov refused to give information on the exact location of the terrain.
Bulgarian Cabinet gave the idea for the re-location and Sofia municipality would be responsible for the project completion.
Dikov said the new ministerial centre would ease pressure on the city and its infrastructure by reducing traffic in the centre of Sofia. Currently most of the Ministries are scattered across the centre of Sofia and cause parking problems.
Ministries located in buildings which represent the traditions of Bulgarian authority would remain at their current addresses.
The Council of Ministers would stay on 1 Dondoukov Boulevard, Standart daily said. Education Ministry, Environment and Water Affairs Ministry and some other institutions with buildings that are old and small would move to the new location, Dikov said.
