MINISTRIES IN BULGARIA AVOID TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONSTRUCTION IN IRAKLI
09:00 Thu 17 Aug 2006

Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov said that all legal procedures for construction in the protected coastal region Irakli were met.

The Regional Development Ministry was responsible for all decisions concerning construction in such areas, mediapool.bg reported. Recently Environment and Water Affairs Minister Djevdet Chakurov enforced a ban on the construction in Irakli.

Gagauzov said that his ministry could not get involved in the issue. Property agencies and plot owners already started protesting against the ban.

According to the development plan that the municipal council of Nessebar approved resort construction in Irakli was going to take place, Gagauzov said.

Gagauzov said that Chakurov informed him of the plans for the enforcement of a construction ban.

The Environment and Water Affairs Ministry can take decisions only on construction in protected regions. The Regional Development Ministry is obliged to control construction activity in all other areas.
