MINISTERS IN BULGARIA SEE NO NEED FOR MAJOR CABINET CHANGES
21:48 Thu 31 May 2007

Cabinet members held a weekly session on May 31, during which ministers said that they see no need to change the ruling coalition format.

According to the preliminary agreement between the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), National Movement Simeon II (NMSII) and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), each member of the ruling coalition gets a particular number of ministerial seats.

The seats were divided in a ratio of 8:5:3 in favour of the BSP, NMSII and MRF respectively.

Disaster Management Minister Emel Etem said that the recent results of Bulgaria’s members of European Parliament (MEP) elections and other political developments did not call for a ratio change.

A possible replacement of some ministers would not affect the preliminary agreement between the three parties, Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov said.

Leaders of the parties in the ruling coalition are the only officials who could decide on such change, State Administration Minister Nikolai Vassilev said.
