An earthquake with an epicentre 190km northeast of Sofia, on Bulgarian territory, was registered at 1.17am on Wednesday, said the Seismology Centre with the Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Geophysics and the State Agency for Civil Protection.
The tremor measured 2.5 points on the Richter scale and was felt in the Veliko Turnovo region in Central Bulgaria. No victims or damage were reported. According to seismologists, Veliko Turnovo lies in a region highly prone to earthquakes. Possible quakes there have a potential magnitude of up to eight points on the Richter scale.
