On May 21, European Commissioner for Consumer Protection Meglena Kouneva congratulated Bulgaria’s newly selected members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
The names of the 18 EP representatives became known after the May 20 MEP elections in the country. Five parties among which Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Socialist Party, Movement for Rights and Freedoms, ultra-nationalist movement Ataka and National Movement Simeon II will send their representatives to the EP.
Being representative in the EP is an honour and a responsibility at the same time, Kouneva said.
The work of Bulgaria’s MEPs in the coming two years will be to shape Bulgaria’s image in Europe, she said. Hopefully all Bulgarian representatives will work together to explain and apply European policies in Bulgaria.
Bulgarians need to be informed about the benefits stemming from the country’s EU membership, Kouneva said.
