Party of European Socialists (PES) member Kristian Vigenin submitted to the European Parliament committee on economic and monetary affairs a second request for the abolition of excise duties on Bulgarian homemade alcoholic drink rakiya.
European Parliament already rejected the request once but afterwards sent it back to the parliamentary committee for re-examination, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
Vigening suggests the removal of duties for alcoholic drinks produced for personal consumption in small distillation facilities.
According to Vigenin, rakiya production is deeply rooted Bulgarian tradition and an exception from EU rules will not affect European and Bulgarian alcoholic drink market.
