The outcome of Bulgaria’s members of European Parliament (MEP) elections shows that European socialists are strong, Party of European Socialists (PES) chairperson Martin Schulz said.
In Strasbourg, Schulz evaluated the results of Bulgaria’s first MEP elections.
Low electoral activity in the country is seen as problematic, he said. Such lack of social interest could affect the quality of representation Bulgaria would have in the EP.
Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) performed convincingly, yet it failed to win the predicted number of seats. Schulz said that the despite the fact, the result was satisfactory.
Another negative development is the failure of traditional rightist parties to win any seats, Schulz said.
