Russian president Dimitry Medvedev has appointed career diplomat Yuri Isakov as the new ambassador in Sofia, the Kremlin website said.
Isakov, until now ambassador plenipotentiary on special duty at the Russian foreign ministry, succeeds Anatoly Potapov, who was ambassador in Sofia for the past three years but who is retiring, mediapool.bg said.
Isakov is due to take over as the Kremlin’s representative in Sofia around the same time as new US ambassador Nancy McEldowney takes office. McEldowney succeeds John Beyrle, who has been designated to become US ambassador in Moscow.
