Medics from various Bulgarian cities took part in a national protest in Sofia, organised by the Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA).
BMA representative Andrei Kehaiov said that Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski was invited to meet the medics and prove that Bulgaria's healthcare system is not experiencing crisis.
Protesting medics said in a letter that healthcare faces crisis related to human resources and financing.
Some of the demands include European levels of financial resources allocated to healthcare, guaranteeing quality and availability of good service, Bulgarian National Radio reported.
By April 1 the Health Ministry should define the minimal salary of healthcare staff. The wage should exceed the average Bulgarian monthly income, the letter said. Medics should receive at least two average national wages per month.
Protesting medics also demanded meeting with the Prime Minister and the National Assembly spokesperson.
In case demands are not met, medics will protest again for an hour each day starting February 19.
