MEDICS IN BULGARIA DISCUSS FUTURE NATIONAL PROTEST
14:40 Fri 12 Jan 2007

The Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) is discussing national protests during an association summit in the town of Stara Zagora.

Protests would focus on the Health Ministry's policies, head of the BMA Andrei Kehayov said. Funding for Bulgaria's healthcare system lacked transparency. Policies concerning health insurances and the work with patients without such were also ambiguous, Kehayov said.

Emergency aid should become priority, yet it was under-financed, Kehayov said as quoted by Bulgarian news agency (BTA).

BMA was a professional organisation which would demand clarity on these issues, Kehayov said.
Politician had to answer whether Bulgaria had medical system of good quality that received proper funding, BMA said.

Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski gave, according to Kehayov, wrong information concerning he income of doctors.

Gaidarski's statements undermined the work of all healthcare professionals, said Kehayov. Medics expected at least an apology, said he.
