MEDICS FROM BULGARIA’S PIROGOV PROVISIONALLY START STRIKING ON JULY 2
13:40 Fri 22 Jun 2007

Medics from Pirogov emergency institute will protest each day for an hour, Pirogov strike committee head Krustuy Penchev said.

Once a decision on the minimal amount of work is taken, medics from the institute will launch an effective strike.

Penchev said that the medics were considering a rally to be carried out in Sofia. Medics are protesting to demand higher salaries and better working conditions.

On June 22, two of the hospital’s managers resigned.

According to the medics, a general assembly should be summoned to select new hospital management.

Current director Spas Spaskov should be replaced, Penchev said. The most suitable candidate in his view is cardiologist Svetlozar Sardovski.
