MEDICS FROM BULGARIA’S PIROGOV EMERGENCY INSTITUTE READY TO STRIKE
21:56 Thu 31 May 2007

Medics from Pirogov emergency institute will start a strike in 10 days, in case their demands are not met by that time.

Pirogov employees already protest on a daily basis in an attempt to get higher wages and better equipment.

Initially a strike was scheduled for June 1 but preparations will take longer than initially planned. Pirogov medics will ensure that patients will be treated while the strike is taking place.

On May 31, nearly 100 Pirogov medics protested. Medics said that they will hold a demonstration again on the morning of June 1.

Labour union representatives said that to deal with the problems, Pirogov should receive additional funding because of the specific services it offers. New technology is needed, as well.
