According to the latest poll of Alpha Research social research agency, 75 per cent of all Bulgarians consider that the country was not ready to join the EU.
The research focused on Bulgarian media and the people's response to their coverage of the EU accession issue, mediapool.bg reported.
Sociologist Boryana Dimitrova said the poll data revealed that the public opinion was greatly influenced by the messages in the Bulgarian press. She added that the press focused mainly on the country's lack of readiness to join the union.
Other issues presented in a negative way in the Bulgarian press include corruption, organised crime and reforms in the judicial system. The media coverage contrasted with the optimistic statements of politicians like the ones of Interior Minister Roumen Petkov, mediapool.bg said.
Public support for the ministers decreased since the end of May, Dimitrova said. The ratings of Petkov and Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov went down the most, mediapool.bg reported.
People expected politicians to work harder on solving the problems the country faces on its way to EU entry, President Georgi Purvanov said.
