Sofia's municipality will support ecological and cultural projects proposed by the 2x 3x movement of young scientists.
Mayor of Sofia Boiko Borissov announced this after a meeting with the young scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and universities.
Proposals from the young scientists include use of the free open-source computer operating system Linux in the administration, to use instruments developed by the Institute of Electronics at BAS for measurements of air pollution and a more attractive presentation of historical and cultural landmarks in Sofia.
Borissov said that he would like the young scientists to show what they could do when the municipality helps them to realise part of their projects and support their applications for funding with European funds.
Sofia's mayor said that he had a meeting on September 24 2007 with rectors of universities in Sofia. In the meeting the problems with ageing teaching staff and low salaries in the sciences had been discussed.
