Double-world figure skating champion Maxim Staviski was given a suspended sentence of two years and six months and five years probation for causing the death of a man and seriously injuring a second person in a road accident in August last year while driving under the influence of alcohol. On January 30 Staviski confessed to all charges and Bourgas regional court decided on a suspended sentence. The prosecution insisted that Staviski should be given two and a half years in prison. Staviski’s driving license was suspended for four years. Staviski will have to pay about 175 000 leva, including court fees, to the families of the victims, who said they will appeal the sentence.
