Bulgaria’s Petar Stoychev is trying to break the world record for swimming the English Channel.
Stoychev started at 12pm Bulgarian time at Shakespeare Beach in UK’s Dover and is heading to the French coast.
Stoychev is currently attempting to beat the seven hour and three minute record of the German swimmer Christof Wandratsch’s set in 2005.
Weather in the strait was calm, and Stoychev had the chance to break the record, Focus news agency reported.
The Bulgarian swimmer left for the UK promptly on August 23 2007 to take advantage of the favourable weather conditions.
