MANCHESTER CITY STEALS BULGARIA’S MARTIN PETROV UNDER TOTTENHAM’S NOSE - UK MEDIA
11:20 Mon 23 Jul 2007

Manchester City coach Sven Goran Eriksson has decided to contract Bulgarian star Martin Petrov.

Eriksson was ready to pay Petrov’s current team Atletico Madrid six million pounds, UK newspaper the Mirror reported.

“City are close to seeing off Tottenham and agreeing a fee for the left-sided ace who will fill a problem position in their squad,” the Mirror said.

According to the News of The World, Petrov himself would prefer to transfer to Manchester City, rather than playing for Tottenham.

Soccer365.com said that Manchester City had “reportedly beaten off competition from Tottenham to sign Atletico Madrid winger Martin Petrov”.

I think you should think again on that one, he has said he wants to play for Tottenham, not Man City as you have said in this useless article, he wants to play alongside Berbatov, and Tottenham will offer 8 million for him by the end of this week, which will beat Man City's offer by 2 million pounds.

Here is what he said in a recent interview Bulgarian midfielder Martin Petrov has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Tottenham Hotspur. The 28-year old Atletico Madrid player has declared Spurs to be a club that is defiantly on the rise in Europe and feels the North London club would be the ideal place to ply his attacking brand of football, "Spurs are a big club and this season play in the UEFA Cup - that is always an interest to any player”, said the player in the News of the World. Rumours had been building that Manchester City where the first in line to secure Petrov’s signature, however with the promise of European football, White Hart Lane seems to have leapfrogged the Eastlands club as the more favoured destination for the left-footed winger.

i hate spurs, but have to say if it was a toss up between Spurs and City, i would go with spurs if you want to grow as a player and win trophy's or City if you want to wind down at the end of your career ha ha
