MANCHESTER CITY SIGNS BULGARIA'S MARTIN PETROV FROM ATLETICO MADRID
09:04 Fri 27 Jul 2007

Manchester City signed Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov from Atletico Madrid on July 26, according to the Associated Press.

The deal is for a 4.7 million pound sterling three-year contract subject to Petrov being granted a UK work permit.

The 28-year-old Petrov has passed a medical exam.

"Unsurprisingly, given the calibre of the player, there were a significant number of clubs competing for Martin's signature, and I am absolutely delighted that he has come to Manchester City," City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said.

"Having Sven-Goran Eriksson as our manager proved to be a major factor in the player's decision to move here."

In his career, the 28-year-old has played for CSKA Sofia, Servette in Switzerland and German club VfL Wolfsburg. Petrov has also played for Bulgaria more than 60 times.
