Man Utd: nothing is done until it's done on Berbatov case

There is no need for Tottenham Hotspur Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov to be despondent about his ‘dreamt’ move to Manchester United.

Yes, on one hand United’s forward Wayne Rooney might say that it would be good if United could strengthen the squad by signing a new forward, but “if one forward doesn’t come in, I’m sure we can deal with that.”

And United’s manager Alex Ferguson might also admit that he was loosing hope of signing Berbatov before the transfer window closes: “I'm less optimistic so we'll carry on. I've no idea what's going on. It's very hard to get communication with some people in life,” the wily Scot was quoted as saying by the Press Association (PA).

There is still the fee deadlock. Even after Berbatov handed in a transfer request, Spurs “are yet to accept a fee and are willing to play the Bulgaria striker in the reserves if their valuation is not matched,” the PA said.

However, United chief executive David Gill told Sky News that the clubs is “working on it, but I've been doing transfers for many, many years and know nothing is done until it's done.”

Gill's advice to the football fans waiting for one of the summer's protracted transfer sagas? "You’ll have to wait with bated breath to see Monday night."

But even if a deal between an angry White Hart Lane hierarchy and the European champions fails to materialise, which would defy the predictions of all and sundry British pundits, Tottenham could still rid themselves of the sulky Bulgarian, who has been shunned in training earlier this week.

For Berbatov, that would entail a return to Germany, which he left in 2006, moving to Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen - on August 29, German tabloid Bild claimed that Berbatov was the top target on the transfer list of German champions Bayern Munich.

Bayern is looking for a striker and a defensive midfielder, but with less than three days left before the transfer window slams shut, the club should be fast with regards to the transfers, Bayern director Uli Hoeness was quoted as saying. Zenit St Petersburg’s Anatoly Tymoschuk and Stuttgart’s Mario Gomez were also quoted as possible transfer targets in case Bayern misses out on Berbatov.
