Macedonia will import electricity from Bulgaria and Serbia in the next 15 days due to a production failure of local REK Bitola.
Macedonia will compensate the missing amount of electricity with electricity import estimated to 2.5 million euro, Macedonian television A1 said.
Electricity imported from Serbia represents 20 per cent of the amounts listed in contracts between the two countries.
According to Macedonian electricity producer ELEM, the import form Bulgaria is not emergency supply, because the plant suffered only technical problems.
Electricity import to Macedonia is twice more expensive than the electricity produced in REK Bitola.
Macedonia currently consumes energy from one of the units of REK Bitola which produces 25 per cent of the total electricity consumption. Nearly 50 per cent of the energy the country needs comes from import.
