LOW-QUALIFIED LABOUR MOST EXPENSIVE IN BULGARIA’S CAPITAL
14:11 Mon 13 Aug 2007

Labour force in Bulgaria is most expensive in the capital of Sofia followed by the coastal city of Varna.

An Industry Watch (IW) analysis based on information from Vitosha Research and the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said that labour force in Bourgas and the main towns in south Bulgaria including Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Haskovo is by nearly 20 per cent less expensive than in Sofia.

Sofia offers the most expensive labour for average positions, the report said as quoted by investor.bg.

Differences in residential property prices in smaller Bulgarian towns compared to Sofia are slighter than differences in labour force price.

Economic immigration from Bulgaria gives people the opportunity to refuse lower paid jobs.

This results in high unemployment rate in many small towns but not in much lower salaries. Labour force cost in Kurdzhali and Kyustendil is by 70 per cent higher than in Sofia.
