Yesterday the Veliko Turnovo court discontinued temporarily its session on the Lim case. On April 4 2004, 12 children from Svishtov drowned in the Lim River after a road accident occurred and their bus fell in the river.
The break in court proceedings occurred after a request of the attorneys of Ilia Izmirliev, the driver of the bus. Attorneys said additional evidence has been found and needs to be examined before court proceedings continue, Focus news agency reported.
According to the prosecutors Izmirliev is guilty and the accident did not occur as a result of technical failure. Expert inspection shows technical problems could not produce the accident that turned the bus into the river.
Several of the adults accompanying the children are also to blame for their inability to take all students out of the bus, the prosecutors said.
The prosecutors requested the maximal punishment for such charges. The case involved the death of 12 children, though it was caused unintentionally.
