Levski Sofia football club will know its Champions League opponent on August 6

The winner of the August 6 2008 clash between Belorussian FC BATE Borisov and Belgium's RSC Anderlecht will play against Bulgaria's Levski Sofia football club in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. This was the result of a draw that took place on August 1 2008.

Levski's first match in the tournament is scheduled for August 12 or 13 in Sofia and the second one is scheduled for either August 26 or 27.

Levski will know its opponent on August 6 when Belorussian BATE Borisov will entertain Anderlecht in their second-leg match of the second preliminary round of the Champions League.

The first game between the two teams ended with a surprising 1:2 win for the Belorussians. The game in Brussels was heading to a 1:1 draw but just three minutes from the end Nekhajchik scored the winner for BETA Borisov, increasing their chances of advancing to the tournament's next stage.

Levski finished second in last year's Bulgarian championship and was supposed to play in Uefa Cup tournament after arch rivals CSKA Sofia won their record 31st championship title with a 16-point advantage over Levski.

Weeks after the championship ended, the Bulgarian Football Union denied CSKA a licence to play in nest year's season due to unpaid taxes to the state and other irregularities. Uefa banned CSKA from playing in next year's Uefa tournaments, giving Levski the chance to replace them.

Eventually CSKA was granted a licence by the BFU but the club's aspirations for the Uefa Championship League were dashed.

Levski, on the other hand, is the most successful Bulgarian team to have ever played in Uefa's Champions League.

In 2006 Levski reached the group stage of the tournament but scored only losses against teams such as Barcelona, Chelsea and Werder Bremen.
